Beacon
2026A fast, lightweight, and customizable link-in-bio platform built with vanilla web technologies. Features an interactive in-browser configuration studio, an animated canvas mesh background, multiple theme presets, and offline PWA capability.
Beacon is a privacy-focused, zero-database Linktree alternative designed for creators and developers who want full ownership of their digital presence. It consolidates social profiles, links, and content into a single fast page.
The visual interface is driven by an interactive HTML5 canvas particle mesh that renders fluid waves in real time. Beyond link lists, Beacon features an in-browser studio allowing users to customize themes and export configuration files directly.
I built Beacon with vanilla JavaScript, modern CSS variables, and offline PWA support. It includes comprehensive open-source documentation, MIT licensing, and GitHub Actions workflows for instant static deployments.
Challenge
Designing an extensible customization system that empowers non-technical users to modify themes and link hierarchies without requiring database dependencies, server runtimes, or rebuild steps while maintaining buttery smooth canvas particle animation.
Solution
I implemented a declarative configuration schema (config.js) coupled with a dedicated browser-based visual studio (edit.html). Changes preview in real-time, generate exportable configuration payloads instantly, and utilize requestAnimationFrame to keep canvas rendering light.
