8D Audio Converter
2025A Python desktop utility that automates the transformation of stereo or mono audio tracks into 3D/8D spatial audio. Employs NumPy trigonometric panning algorithms, customizable rotation speeds, and echo delay modulation under a ttkbootstrap GUI.
8D Audio Converter is an open-source tool designed to transform standard stereo or mono tracks into dynamic, 360-degree binaural soundscapes. It provides producers with an automated way to create rotating 8D headphone experiences.
The application offers eight selectable mathematical modulation patterns including Circular, Sine wave, Wave, Heartbeat, and Echo Delay. Through a ttkbootstrap GUI, users can fine-tune panning speed, adjust frequencies, and preview output wave files.
I developed the tool in Python using Pydub for audio decoding and NumPy for digital signal processing. By modulating stereo channels with trigonometric functions across time, the script calculates smooth spatial panning without clipping.
Challenge
Generating smooth, natural binaural rotation across thousands of audio samples without causing phase cancellation, volume dips, or clipping, while keeping mathematical array operations fast enough to process multi-minute audio files without memory exhaustion.
Solution
I utilized vectorized NumPy trigonometric arrays to compute left and right channel gain curves simultaneously. Audio samples are normalized to float64 arrays before modulation, applying smooth trigonometric phase shifts to create immersive 3D orbits without clipping.
